Wrongful Death
- On January 16, 2013, terrorists drove through an open gate at a multi-national oil and gas company’s processing plant in Algeria. The next day, as Algerian forces closed in, the terrorists killed dozens of their hostages. One of those hostages was from Houston. His family hired HMH. After a year of investigations, HMH filed a lawsuit in Houston against the oil and gas company, alleging 23 instances of gross negligence in how the company failed to protect the people in its plant and how the company failed to prepare for an event that was foreseeable. Two years, and a significant amount of work, later, the oil and gas company reached a settlement with HMH and the family.
